Russell Lea
The home was originally built in 1920; a typical Federation style and it was important to retain the original decorative features while still creating a modern feel. The cornices were retained and we also added in plaster archways to the staircase to tie in the new part of the home to the old. The heart of the home is the central staircase with all the inside spaces flowing around it.
Buildrite Sydney added value to the project by suggesting an expansion in the living areas, increasing the number of bedrooms, adding an oversized single garage and levelling the sloping yard which could potentially accommodate a pool. The second-floor addition has become a hero for the property. This increased the floor plan from 3 bedrooms to 5 bedrooms and a study.
The garage is a vital addition and this is the only property in the street with a lock-up garage. The timeframe from council approval to completion meant this was built in under three weeks including the landscaping which was a well-organised feat by Buildrite Sydney. One of the challenges we faced in the build was the marrying of the old and new structure for the roofline entrance. We achieved this with precise carpentry (which is our trademark).
The yard was another important factor in the build. We felt a level yard and potential to fit a pool would be a great selling factor for the home. The house sold for $2.8 million in under 2 months on the market – a fantastic result for the client.
